Characteristics of 'Good' and 'Bad' Teachers
‘Good’ teachers… ‘Bad’ teachers…
Take time to explain material in depth. Are unwilling to help or explain material and ideas.
Are friendly. Are judgemental of pupils’ parents and siblings.
Understand and know the subject well. Are disrespectful of pupils. Are intimidating and verbally abusive.
Use a variety of teaching style and innovative approaches. Are unwilling to change their teaching methods.
Are fair and have equal standards and expectations of pupils, regardless of test scores. Are unsympathetic to pupils’ personal problems.
Are helpful and supportive.
